A 24-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of selling marijuana after Burbank police reportedly found the drug, a large amount of cash and several cell phones with incriminating text messages in his car.

Officers stopped the man, Joe Varas, at 12:40 a.m. on Avon Street and Hollywood Way for several traffic violations, said Burbank Police Lt. Eddie Ruiz.

While speaking with the Varas, police reportedly smelled marijuana coming from his car.

During a search of the vehicle, officers reported recovering marijuana, a large amount of cash in small denominations and several cell phones containing text messages regarding the alleged sale of marijuana between Varas and suspected clients.

Varas was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute and was being held in lieu of $20,560 bail. He is due in court later this week.
