Leader Editorial: Hospital can take pride in its progress

Share

Already well-regarded by many local residents, Providence St. Joseph Hospital got a shot in the arm this week when an annual report card issued by the Leapfrog Group gave it an “A” rating in patient safety.

This distinction is especially welcome news for the Burbank hospital, as last year it was given a “C” grade by the same organization. It was one of fewer than 2% of the hospitals studied to be ranked two grade levels higher this time around by the nonprofit.

Some 2,500 hospitals across the nation were included in this year’s report. Of those, 780 achieved an “A” grade. The Burbank hospital’s director for quality improvement, Sonja Draganic, says regular meetings among the heads of various disciplines to identify and resolve issues has been a key to their success. Whatever they’re doing, it appears to be working.

Congratulations to all involved. You have good reason to be proud.
