Police are investigating a burglary attempt in which a man tried to drill through a door lock at a Burbank residence on Monday afternoon, police said.

At 1:15 p.m., the man – described as Hispanic, in his 50s and roughly 175 pounds – knocked on the door of a Burbank townhome in the 700 block of Olive Avenue, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn. He was reportedly wearing jeans and a polo shirt.

Five minutes later, after receiving no response, the man knocked again.

Shortly after, the resident inside the home heard a drilling sound coming from outside and ran upstairs to call the police, Ryburn said.

After partially drilling through the door lock, the suspect fled, Ryburn said. Police were unable to locate him upon their arrival.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Burbank police at (818) 238-3210.
