Residents melt over Burbank’s new ice skating rink
Skaters flocked to downtown Burbank this week for the grand opening of a temporary ice rink, which is slated to be open through early January.
“This is like Rockefeller Center now,” said Burbank resident Masiss Andriasian, just after he picked up a flier with details on the rink’s hours Friday afternoon.
Andriasian planned to take his two sons and daughter skating Friday evening.
“This is real — you can’t play this with a remote control,” Andriasian said.
For 10-year-old Kyron Mirzakhanian, who often skates at Pickwick Ice in Burbank, the rink was a neat opportunity to skate outdoors. His mom called him as soon as she drove past the rink on Thursday to let him know about Burbank’s latest attraction.
“I’m like, there’s a rink? Take me, take me, take me,” the 10-year-old said, taking a break from doing tricks on the ice. He said he hopes officials bring the rink back next year.
Patrick Andriassian, 10, hopes to visit the rink three times a week this holiday season.
“He likes the exercise,” said the boy’s grandfather, Krikor Menachaganian.
The rink, which is located in the parking lot behind City Hall at 275 E. Olive Ave., will be open daily through Jan. 5.
