Runaway horse caught on trail near equestrian center, injuring six

A runaway horse was caught Saturday on a trial near the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank, though the incident ended up injuring six people, according to police.

All six victims -- three adults and three minors -- were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries, said Sgt. Jerry Misquez with the Burbank Police Department.

Misquez said the horse either escaped from a nearby stable or may have thrown a rider at about 11:50 a.m. on a trial which is in the unincorporated Los Angeles County and circles the equestrian center.

He said multiple units from the Burbank Fire Department were dispatched to the scene.

Burbank Fire Department Dispatcher Crystal Bartl said the units and personnel were on the scene for about an hour and a half.

John Chatney, repairs and maintenance manager for the equestrian center, said he wasn’t working on Saturday.

He did say that he learned the horse was finally caught on the trail outside the center.

“Outside of that, I know nothing,” Chatney said.

Other officials at the equestrian center could not be reached for comment.
