New Line Cinema to move to Burbank
New Line Cinema, the studio that produced the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “Wedding Crashers” and the “Austin Powers” trilogy, will move to the lot of its parent company, Warner Bros., in Burbank by this summer.
[UPDATED: Jan. 31, 2014, 6:53 p.m.] The relocation was prompted by a vacancy that opened up when Legendary Entertainment moved from the Warner lot down the street to the Pointe, located at 2900 W. Alameda Ave., according to Paul McGuire, a spokesperson for Warner Bros.
New Line Cinema has been located at Robertson Plaza in West Hollywood for the past 25 years, he added.
The studio will be moving its roughly 50 employees into Building 76, which has a long history connected with it.
It was the machine shop for Warner Bros. until 1958, when it became the home of Warner Bros. Records until 1976, McGuire said. Since then, it’s housed other companies, such as Lorimar Productions, which produced TV hits such as “The Waltons,” “Dallas” and “Knots Landing.”
It’s expected New Line’s move will be complete by June, McGuire said.
