Human remains were found off a road near the Stough Canyon Nature Center in Burbank Monday, authorities said.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m., a city worker discovered what appeared to be human bones and called the police, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.

The Burbank Police Department is working with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s anthropology unit, and cadaver dogs searched the area Tuesday morning.

“It’s considered a crime scene,” Ryburn said Tuesday.

It is still unknown whether the remains belong to a male or female or how long the bones had been there.

The Stough Nature Center is located at 2300 E Walnut Ave. in Burbank.
