Employers to hold jobs fair for veterans

Share

Veterans hunting for jobs can print out their resumes and head to McCambridge Recreation Center Thursday for the Veterans Job Fair.

About 50 employers have registered to attend, and will be holding on-the-spot interviews and collecting resumes from job seekers, city officials said.

Participating employers include Warner Bros., Charter Communications, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Stock Building Supply, Bank of America, the Social Security Administration, the Beverly Hilton and Andrews International.

“Our goal is to connect job seekers with viable job opportunities,” said April Moreno, who oversees WorkForce Connection, a job resource center in Burbank.

Last year, the event drew 150 job seekers — a number that officials hope to double this year — and roughly 40 employers. At least nine people were offered jobs immediately at last year’s fair.

While the event is targeted toward veterans, it’s open to the public.

Job seekers should “dress to impress,” bring multiple copies of their resumes, along with their military identification card, DD Form 214 or their current veteran card, as well as a state-issued identification card and Social Security card, officials said.

To register for the event, visit www.burbankveteransjobfair2014.eventbrite.com, or stop by the Burbank WorkForce Connection or the Verdugo Jobs Center.
