Letter: L.A. River bikeway is an unknown asset

One of the best kept secrets in the San Fernando Valley is the L.A. River Bike Path that begins on the Griffith Park side of the Victory Boulevard freeway overpass and goes east nearly 10 miles to the I-5 overpass near Figueroa Street. The path is well paved, lit at night, and mostly flat to ride on. Along the flowing river there are beautiful stretches of wooded areas with exotic nesting birds, such as herons and white cranes, that you won’t see anywhere else in the city.
In just the past year there have been some nice parks built along the path, including the Frog Spot, where on weekends during summer and fall you’ll find musical entertainment and a refreshment stand run by enthusiastic volunteers.
The path is enjoyable for bike riding, jogging, or walking, and most times I’ve been there I rarely see many people. Its all there just waiting to be discovered by most local residents. I look forward to its planned expansion westward through the south side of Burbank.
