Letter: Officer Dyrness is an asset at school

Re: On the Town, “Police luncheon fetes the department’s best,” March 3. For the past five years, I have been the valet coordinator at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School. I have scheduled valet training sessions led by Officer Tim Dyrness. Over the course of an hour, Officer Dyrness trains prospective valets on everything from safety issues for a valet line to being our school’s “ambassadors” when dealing with parents and their peers. Time permitting, Officer Dyrness always closes with basic safety tips for riding bikes and crossing in crosswalks.

Simply put, the kids are in awe of Officer Dyrness and he holds them in rapt attention. He has been training valets for more than 13 years. At Jefferson, we are so fortunate to have him train our valets. I cannot think of a better officer to be called Burbank’s Officer of the Year than Tim Dyrness.
