Letters to the Editor: Burbank on Parade organizers tip their hats to Frutos for his support of their efforts

Share

The Burbank on Parade committee would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to Councilman Bob Frutos, who generously made a contribution to the parade with some of the remainder of his City Council campaign funds.

Burbank on Parade is a favorite event in Burbank and each April, our few dedicated volunteers work diligently to stage an event with entertainment and community engagement for all ages. As we start to prepare for our 37th year, we could not be more excited to highlight all of the destination opportunities that are here in Burbank. Councilman Frutos has been a longtime fan of the parade and he is keenly aware of the need for funding to keep the parade going.

Burbank on Parade is a 501 (c)(3) that is run entirely by volunteers and depends on donations from our neighbors, our business community and support from the city of Burbank, Burbank Water and Power, Burbank Police and Fire departments and Burbank Parks and Recreation Department. We are grateful for the example Councilman Frutos has set and hope that in the future not only our other elected officials will remember us, but our community at large when they are making their philanthropic donations. If you are interested in more information on the parade or volunteering your time, please contact us at: jmill901@gmail.com.

Mark your calendars for next year’s parade slated for April 28, 2018, and thank you again, Councilman Frutos, for your kindness and generosity.

If House Republicans succeed in their efforts to gut the Johnson Amendment, it would open the door for big-money donors and political interest groups to pressure and manipulate our nation’s churches and charities.

Without this amendment, big donors would have free reign to use institutions meant for the social good to funnel unlimited amounts of money into political elections in secret — and get a tax break for doing it.

The Johnson Amendment is crucial to uphold the integrity of our churches, our charities and our elections. This is why House Republicans should not gut it!
