Coverage of event may inspire students

I’m writing to express my gratitude and appreciation for writing about the kids’ accomplishments on math field day (“School math teams multiply their medals,” Joyce Rudolph’s Community column, June 20).

My son is one of the kids on that sixth-grade team in the picture. This was the ultimate reward for these kids. They worked hard to prepare for that competition, and they represented Burbank with pride.

Thank you for finding space in your paper to print their story. I’ve personally forwarded the article to dozens of people, including friends and relatives residing overseas. The Burbank Board of Education also honored them with certificates.

This is exactly the way we ought to encourage education and inspire our students.

Bravo to Rudolph for writing so eloquently and bravo to the Burbank Leader for publishing it. I’ll be looking forward to reading her columns in the future.
