Council seeks holiday basket items

Share

Ho, ho, ho! It’s Burbank Coordinating Council’s annual holiday basket time. This program started in 1936 and is all about giving people in our community in need of assistance a basket of food and gifts so they can have a nice holiday. Last year, we gave out 550 baskets to grateful residents who would not have had a holiday celebration without these baskets. We thank all the people who donated their time and money at our event.

We can only do this with your generous donations and time spent collecting food at the local markets during our food drive. We are asking your help again this year by donating food, gifts for kids of all ages and of course, money and gift cards so that we can buy the needed items to put in the baskets. You can also adopt a family. Every cent we collect goes to the happiness of these families who would not have a happy holiday celebration. It is a wonderful experience to see the happy faces when we deliver their baskets delivered by residents, firemen and others.

On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. we are having our food drive at local grocery stores, Kmart and all CVS pharmacies. When you go shopping, please pick items on the list that you will be given as you enter the store by our dedicated, cheerful volunteers.

If you want to help on our food drive, please contact me at eileencobos@att.net; if you want to help build baskets on Dec. 14 or deliver baskets on Dec 15, please contact Janet Diel at (818) 843-3699.
