Colony’s production is worth checking out

Share

This letter is to praise Burbank’s Colony Theatre production of “The Morini Strad.” Willy Holtzman’s play about Erica Morini, a Viennese violin diva who made her debut at the age of 12, focuses on Morini’s final days as she painfully deals with the disposition of her beloved Stradivarius violin given to her by her father.

Mariette Hartley plays the aging world-class musician who is difficult and demanding yet elicits the audience’s sympathy. The violin music, played by 14-year-old Geneva Lewis of the Colburn School of Performing Arts, is itself worth the ticket price. We are lucky to have such wonderful music and theater so nearby. It plays through Dec.16.
