Supreme Court did the right thing

In response to the July 6 letter to the editor, “Court’s decision negates power of vote.” It can be unsettling to see the power of a vote reversed, but would the letter writer agree that interracial marriage in the U.S. should be illegal as well?

Up until the Supreme Court decision that deemed anti-miscegenation laws unconstitutional on June 12th, 1967, interracial marriage in the U.S. was illegal in the southern states.

In this case, Prop 8 was a discriminatory law created by religious fundamentalists seeking to impose their values on all the people. The Prop 8 campaign used fear tactics and misinformation to shroud its real intent. It was a bad law and the Supreme Court did the right thing. In this country, all men are created equal and we the people need to enforce that.
