I am so excited after finding out in two Sept. 28 Leader stories, “Appealing ruling stumps council,” where Mike Nolan exposed a recurring bureaucratic city executive staff boo-boo mindset at Burbank City Hall, and “Council OKs contract change for city manager” that Mark Scott is here.

I’ve known Scott since 1986. I met him in Beverly Hills when he was transportation director and acting ombudsman before he became the Beverly Hills city manager.

In Beverly Hills Scott worked long work weeks, came daily to his job during his vacations, attended so many Beverly Hills civic, city and special events, including showing up weekly at the Sunday farmers market. He did all this when we both lived in Glendale. I wonder if he still does this kind of stuff?

His extraordinary work ethic and public service dedication reflects his strong pioneer Cumberland Gap family traditional upbringing to be driven by excellence and the Protestant work ethic in one’s calling.

We in Burbank are fortunate to have this gem of a guy as city manager.
