Letter: Proposed gates would divide community

Share

On Monday, April 14, Burbank’s planning board will consider the proposed project to install gates at the streets of Castleman Lane and Lamer Street and Wedgewood Lane and Lamer Street. If allowed, this will set a precedent for future applications to create gated communities within Burbank. The citizens and leadership of Burbank need to consider if they want our future to be one of isolated groups within our community or whether we have equal access for all.

I encourage this proposal to be declined as it further fragments society which I believe is unhealthy for the future of Burbank. The wonderful appeal of our city is the charming feel of being a small town without being a small town. Creating exclusive communities within Burbank will diminish the quality of life for its citizens.
