Leader Sports Roundup: Burroughs boys’ soccer upends Burbank to finish runner-up in league

BOYS’ SOCCER

Burroughs 4, Burbank 0: Elias Galaviz had a goal and an assist to lead the Indians to a Pacific League win against the Bulldogs on Thursday at Memorial Field.

Burroughs (10-7-3, 10-2-2 in league for 32 points) finished second in league behind champion Pasadena (35 points). Burbank (2-14, 1-13) finished sixth in league.

The Indians, who led, 1-0, at the half, also received goals from Kobe Estrada, Manny Gonzalez and Carlos Rosales.

Gonzalez has 60 career goals and has scored 26 goals this season, both program records. Galaviz has 16 goals this season.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Burroughs 4, Burbank 0: Lily Gonzalez had two goals for the Indians on Thursday in a Pacific League win at Burbank.

Orla Griffen and Trinity Vournas tallied goals for Burroughs (14-5-2, 10-3-1 in league), which placed third in league behind champion Arcadia and runner-up Crescenta Valley.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Burbank 46, Burroughs 42: Vartan Avetisyan had 16 points and Elmer Reyes added 12 for Bulldogs in the Pacific League win Thursday at Burroughs.

Corwin Smith had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Burroughs (19-9, 7-7 in league), which finishes tied for fourth in league with Muir and will earn a spot in the playoffs.

Burbank (9-18, 5-8) placed sixth in league.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 56, Westridge 24: Katie Karroum had 18 points and nine rebounds to pace the Pioneers to a Prep League home win Thursday.

Audrey Sayoc added 16 points, six rebounds and nine steals and Ava Tibbs had 10 points and seven rebounds for Providence (18-9, 8-4 in league).

The Pioneers finished third in league.

Providence 60, Westridge 41: The Pioneers earned the win Wednesday evening with a win on the road in Prep League action.

Audrey Sayoc had 12 points, five assists and five steals, Haley Laca added 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists and six steals, Katie Karroum had eight points and eight rebounds and Sydney Sayoc had eight points for Providence.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Burbank 7, Hoover 3: Burbank ended its season on the right note with a victory Thursday in the fifth-place match of the Pacific League Tournament at Arcadia High.

The Bulldogs (12-8, 4-4 in league) received three goals from Sera Shahbazian.
