Leader Sports Roundup: Burroughs girls’ basketball wins playoff opener in overtime

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Burroughs 51, St. Bonaventure 48 (overtime): The No. 4 Indians battled back to force the extra period and hung on to claim a win Thursday in a first-round game of the CIF Southern Section Division II-A playoffs on the road.

Burroughs (23-6), the runner-up in the Pacific League, will host Lakewood or Arroyo Valley in a second-round home game Saturday, likely at 7 p.m.

The Indians received 15 points and five rebounds from Dyani Del Castillo, 12 points and nine rebounds from Faith Boulanger and 10 points, eight rebounds and four steals from Kayla Wrobel.

St. Bonaventure (17-10) won a title in the Tri-Valley League.

Pioneer 61, Providence 50: Providence saw its season come to an end Thursday with a loss in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division III-A playoffs.

Providence (18-10), the No. 3 team from the Prep League, received 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists from Audrey Sayoc and 12 points and 10 rebounds from Haley Laca.

Pioneer (12-14) placed second in the 605 League.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Hacianda Heights Wilson 4, Burroughs 1: The Indians went on the road Thursday and suffered a loss in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs.

The Indians’ goal was scored by Lauryn Bailey.

Burroughs, the third-place team from the Pacific League, ends the season 13-6-2. Wilson (11-3-3) won the Valle View League championship.
