Sports Roundup: LoVett has 32 points to lead Providence girls’ basketball to playoff win

Providence 62, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 41: Freshman Jyah LoVett had 32 points to pace the Pioneers to a win Thursday in a CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA first round game on the road.

Audrey Sayoc added 11 points and six rebounds and Ariel Gordillo had nine points for Providence (16-13), which finished third in the Prep League.

The Pioneers had a 26-25 lead at halftime before outscoring Notre Dame, 36-16, in the second half.

Providence will travel to face Ramona (17-11) in a second-round game Saturday. Ramona, the No. 3 team from the River Valley League, defeated Pacific, 40-34, in its first-round opener Thursday.

Walnut 43, Burroughs 38: The Indians’ tenure in the CIF Southern Section Division II-AA playoffs was short-lived, as they suffered a first-round road loss Thursday.

Burroughs, which tied for second in the Pacific League, finished 21-7.

Faith Boulanger paced Burroughs with 17 points and 14 rebounds, Kayla Wrobel added seven points and five rebounds and Dyani Del Castillo had seven points and seven rebounds.

Walnut (17-10) tied for second in the Hacienda League.
