College Update: Peres continues to excel at La Verne

The following are updates on local athletes at the collegiate level.

Christopher Peres (La Verne) Burroughs: Following a phenomenal freshman campaign, Peres turned in a sensational sophomore season at La Verne.

As a true utility player who was a starting pitcher and corner infielder, Peres earned D3baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region third-team honors. The accolades come following a first-team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference nod.

The sophomore hit .336 (47 for 140) with 35 runs batted in, 18 runs, 12 walks and a .377 on-base percentage.

As the staff ace, he garnered a 6-2 record with a 3.06 earned-run average across 67 2/3 innings with 64 strikeouts to just 26 walks.

La Verne (21-20, 15-9 in conference) lost in its season finale in a consolation game of the SCIAC tournament against Chapman, 8-7, on May 6.

Peres hit .379 with 32 runs, 29 RBI and 20 walks as a freshman.

Christopher Ligot (Burbank resident) La Verne baseball sophomore: A product of Alemany High, Ligot settled in to the Leopards’ lineup in the outfield.

He batted .337 (32 for 95) in 36 games with 18 runs, 14 RBI and four stolen bases.

The Leopards finished the season at 21-20 with a 15-9 record in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Laina Do (Burbank High, 2013) Yale softball senior: A distinguished Ivy League tenure came to a close this season for Do.

The infielder hit .282 (33 for 117) with 17 runs, 22 runs batted in, 19 walks, a .416 on-base percentage, seven doubles and just eight strikeouts.

Do’s exploits led her to a second-team All-Ivy League accolade, ending a career in which she impressively started all 170 games during her Bulldogs career.

Nearly all of Do’s statistics were career-highs, including her first and only career home run. With her team trailing, 3-2, at home in Ivy League action against Dartmouth, Do hit a grand slam to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning to lead the Bulldogs to a 6-3 victory.

Yale finished the season 17-28, 10-10 in conference.

Garrett Auproux (Burroughs High, 2013) Cal Poly tennis senior: The former All-Area Boys’ Tennis Singles Player of the Year wrapped up his days at Cal Poly.

In his swan song, Auproux was an All-Big West Conference second-team selection who went 14-18 overall and 10-14 in dual-meet competition.

Auproux went 18-10 in doubles with three partners, going 5-0 with Axel Damiens and 9-4 with Joshua Ortlip.

On April 30, Cal Poly lost to UC Santa Barbara, 4-2, in the conference championship match to end its season.

Auproux lost his singles tilt in the No. 3 slot, 7-6 (8-6), 6-0, but won in No. 3 doubles with Damiens, 6-4.

The Mustangs finished the season at 18-8, 3-2 in conference.

Alise Archuleta (Burroughs High, 2016) Pasadena City College softball freshman: Archuleta was a crucial contributor during a successful Lancers campaign.

Pasadena took second place in the South Coast Conference North and went 25-13-1 overall with its season ending in the first round of the Southern California Regional playoffs with a 2-0 series loss to Palomar.

Archuleta played in 39 games and hit .287 (25 for 87) with a .361 on-base percentage that included eight walks to go with 15 runs, eight RBI and nine stolen bases.

Also for PCC, Amber Ingram, a freshman out of Burbank High, hit .400 (six of 15) with seven RBI, six runs and three stolen bases.
