Girls’ volleyball camp offered

Female players wishing to improve their volleyball skills can do so at the fifth annual Volleyball Players Camp.

The camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 12-16 and July 19-23 at Bellarmine-Jefferson High. The coat is $95 for one session or $175 for both sessions.

The camp is open to girls who will be in fifth-eighth grades in the fall. Returning Guards players will be helping out with the event.

At the camp, athletes will learn basic and advanced volleyball skills, including hitting, serving, setting, digging, blocking and teamwork.

The camp is headed by Bellarmine-Jefferson graduates and coaches Miguel Segura and Debbie Segura-Mariscal. The two have many years of coaching experience between them. All fees much be received by June 25.

Area volleyball camp offered

Volleyball players 8-13 can hone their skills and learn about the sport at a Youth Volleyball Camp.

Under the direction of Burroughs High girls’ volleyball Coach Edwin Real, the camp will be held from 2-5 p.m. July 26-29 at the Powerhouse Gym (10950 Sherman Way).

The cost is $90 per session or $160 for both. The fee includes a camp T-shirt, knee pads and a player handbook.

At the camps, athletes will learn volleyball fundamentals, including passing, spiking and serving. In addition, offensive and defensive formations will be taught, including serve reception, blocking and digging.

Real has 18 years of coaching experience. Also at the camp will be Burroughs boys’ Coach Joel Brinton, who had 11 years of playing and coaching experience, freshmen Coach Glenn Hamanaka (11 years experience) and Karissa Lagmay, a former Indians’ All-CIF standout and collegiate player.

Youth basketball camp slated

Athletes who would like to improve their skills can do so at the Young Dawgs Basketball Camp at Burbank High.

The camp is open to boys’ and girls’ players 4-14 and will take place from 8 a.m. to noon July 5-8.

The camp is run under the direction of Burbank boys’ Coach Jose Hernandez and will be held at the Bulldog gym.

At the camp, every athlete will receive a T-shirt, reversible uniform and shorts, basketball and a bag. It will also include daily competitions and games and feature guest speakers.

The cost is $140 for one session and $255 for both sessions. Campers can register on the first day of camp.

Youth football camps set

Players who are looking to improve their skills can do so at a series of Fundamental Football Camps.

The camps will take place in eight sessions that run through Aug. 1.

The players will be grouped by age, with 7- 10-year-olds going from 10 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. and 11- to 14-year olds going from 11:45 to 1 p.m.

The camps will be taught by former Arena League player Dameon Porter and ex-Burbank High player David Machuca. They will take place at John Muir Middle School, 1111 North Kenneth Rd.

Youth basketball clinics offered

Area youth players who want to improve their skills on the court can do so by taking part in MVP Basketball Clinics at Burbank’s Powerhouse Gym Sports Complex.

The facility is at 10950 Sherman Way, No. 160.

The clinics are on Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m. for players in the third and fourth grades and from 7-8 for players in fifth through seventh grades.

The cost is $6 per class, and attendees can pay as they go.
