Bits and pieces from the local sports scene:

Burroughs graduate staying busy on the course: Recent Burroughs High graduate Emily Tubert has spent much of her summer competing in golf tournaments across the nation.

Despite some tough competition, the 18-year-old has been able to enjoy her share of success.

In an event Friday, Tubert finished in second place at the McArthur Towel & Sports Future Legend at The Legend at Bristlecone in Hartland, Wis.

The event is an Open tournament put on by the American Junior Golf Assn.

Tubert shot rounds of 75, 76 and 70 for a total of 221. She finished seven shots behind Alex Stewart of Peoria, Ariz. (73-68-73—214).

“It was nice to finish tied for second at my last official AJGA event,” said Emily Tubert, who was an honorable mention Rolex Junior All-American and will be playing for University of Arkansas in the fall. “I’ve had a great summer so far, it’s been a lot of intense golf, so it was good to come to a smaller event and finish well.”

The McArthur Towel & Sports Future Legends is a 54-hole stroke-play tournament. The tournament field consisted of 120 boys and girls, ages 12-18, from 16 states. The girls’ division played at 5,970 yards.

Last month, Tubert, a two-time All-Area Girls’ Golfer of the Year and Pacific League champion, won the 2010 U.S Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship.
