Burroughs places fifth in own event

Burroughs, Burbank in 2010 Magnolia Park Optimist Club Girls’ High School Invitational: The Indians and Bulldogs had some good results at the event Thursday at DeBell Golf Club.

In the team results, Burroughs (171) placed fifth and Burbank (197) was 10th. Palos Verdes (154) won the team championship, edging out Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (156).

The Indians’ Ravipa Losakul tied for third in the A Flight, as she fired a two-over-par 38. Hart’s Katelyn Reynolds won the flight with a 35.

The B Flight was won by Charia Crofton of Peninsula, as she shot a one-over-par 38.

For Burroughs, Joany Gao shot a 40, Alex Chandler had a 45 and Jasmine Daniel had a 48.

For Burbank, Tess Apinchapong had a 40, Nicole Chang and Melane Cho had 49s and Halley Pirruccelo had a 59.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Arcadia d. Burroughs, 22-25, 25-13, 25-23, 20-25, 17-15: The Indians gave the defending Pacific League champions all they could handle, falling in a tight match Tuesday on the road.

Megan Stephenson came up big for Burroughs, collecting 27 kills. Teammate Kathy Henry added seven kills and Amanda Hernandez had six.

The Indians, who placed second behind the Apaches last season, also received 26 assists from Catarina Emerson, 24 assists from Keana Figueroa and 25 digs from Victoria Santos.

Burbank d. Hoover, 25-12, 22-25, 25-7, 25-6: After dropping the second game, the Bulldogs came on strong to capture the Pacific League victory Tuesday at home.

Danielle Reid had eight kills and four aces, Nia Treadwell had 12 kills, Sarah Tubert had 12 assists, five kills and four aces and Melanie Rains had 14 digs and six aces for Burbank.
