Tubert is an All-American

BURBANK — Emily Tubert is having the time of her life.

In the midst of her freshman season at the University of Arkansas, Tubert — who graduated from Burroughs High in May — is enjoying success with the Razorbacks women’s golf team.

“Working with my teammates and the coaches has just been a awesome experience,” Tubert said. “I just love it here and I’m really enjoying competing and traveling with the team.”

Earning accolades is something that Tubert has received a great deal of since picking up the sport a few years ago. She earned another prestigious honor Wednesday, when she was named to the Rolex Junior All-America First Team.

It is Tubert’s second time earning All-American honors, her first on the first team.

“It’s a great honor to be named an All-American,” Tubert said. “The last time I won it I was a junior [at Burroughs], and I was an honorable mention. Now to make the first team is something that I’m very proud of.

“Playing golf for only a short time, that makes the award that much more special.”

Tubert had a successful final year of competition as a junior golfer, earning her first ever American Junior Golf Assn. title at the Under Armour / Vicky Hurst Championship and claiming the 2010 U.S. Amateur Public Links title. She also tied for second at both the McArthur Towel & Sports Future Legends and the Rolex Tournament of Champions.

She had also made an instant impact at Arkansas, as she captured her a title in her first collegiate tournament, winning at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in September.

Introduced by the AJGA in 1978, the Rolex Junior All-America teams annually recognize players who have established themselves as the world’s premier junior golfers. This year’s selections distinguished themselves through their outstanding play in 77 national events, 60 of which were conducted by the AJGA.

The Rolex Junior All-America Teams were determined exclusively through the Polo Golf Rankings as of Oct. 20. The teams are comprised of 96 junior golfers, 13-18, from 23 states and six foreign countries (Canada, Israel, Mexico, Northern Ireland, the Philippines and Thailand).

The All-American athletes will be honored at the Rolex Junior All-America Awards Banquet on Nov. 21, at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Along with winning her second consecutive Pacific League championship last fall as a senior at Burroughs, Tubert — who finished her junior play as the No. 7-ranked golfer in the nation — also captured a CIF Southern Section title.
