Burbank earns league sweep

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burbank d. Pasadena, 25-20, 26-24, 25-19: The Bulldogs stayed in the hunt for a top-three finish in the Pacific League with a victory Thursday at Pasadena.

Sarah Tubert had seven kills, 18 assists and three blocks and Reilly Brennan had eight kills to pace Burbank (7-4, 6-2 in league).

Arcadia d. Burbank, 25-16, 22-25, 25-12, 25-20: The Bulldogs were able to take a game off the Pacific League-leading Apaches in suffering a loss Tuesday on the road.

Danielle Reid had seven kills, Nia Tredwell had seven kills and four blocks and Sarah Tubert had 19 assists for Burbank.

Bell-Jeff d. St. Anthony, 25-14, 25-19, 25-20: The Guards remained in first place in the Santa Cruz League with a victory Tuesday on the road

Jocelyn Cervantes paced the Guards with 16 kills and seven digs. Teammate Taryn Nelson added 14 kills and two aces and Breanna Padron had 31 assists and aces.

Bell-Jeff in the Hilltop Invitational Tournament (Chula Vista): The Guards had some fine results in the event Oct. 16.

In pool play, Bell-Jeff defeated Southwest, 25-15, 25-17, downed Schurr, 25-14, 25-8, and lost to Point Loma, 28-26, 16-25, 12-15.

In the Gold Bracket playoffs, the Guards fell to Otay Ranch, 21-25, 25-20, 12-15.

In the tournament, Jocelyn Cervantes had 32 kills five aces and 12 digs, Taryn Nelson had 22 kills, seven aces and 14 digs and Breanna Padron had eight aces, 51 assists and seven digs.

Burroughs d. Glendale, 25-14, 25-18, 25-20: The Indians not only won the Pacific League match at home Tuesday, but they also raised funds for a good cause.

Burroughs and Glendale participated in a Dig Pink contest, where every dig raises money for the fight against breast cancer. The Indians tallied 42 digs, with Victoria Santos leading the way with 13.

Megan Stephenson had 12 kills, Katie Dick added nine and Kathy Henry had eight. Catarina Emerson had 17 assists and Cynthia Dunn added 13.

FOOTBALL

Burbank Vikings: Four teams in the Burbank Vikings Youth Tackle Football program were able to earn victories Oct. 16 in week-six games.

Leading the way was the Pee-Wees (4-1-0), who defeated Agoura, 20-0.

Also getting wins were the Junior Green (2-3-0), which defeated Santa Clarita Chiefs, 14-8, the Midget Green (3-3), which beat Valley, 28-18, and the Bantam Green (3-3), which downed Calabasas Black, 14-0.

In losing results, the Senior Black (3-2-0) fell to the Santa Clarita Chiefs, 22-24, the Senior Green (2-4) was defeated by Calabasas Black, 54-0, the Junior Gold (3-3-0) lost to the Santa Clarita Seminoles 26-22, the Midget Black (3-3-0) was beaten by Agoura Gold 38-14, Bantam Black (5-1) fell to the Santa Clarita Chiefs, 34-0, and Bantam White (4-2) lost to Santa Clarita Aztecs 26-20.
