Burbank doubles team places third in league

GIRLS’ TENNIS: Pacific League finals: Burbank High’s Meredy Gharabegi and Ashley Basco had a surprising finish in the event Wednesday at Pasadena.

Although the Bulldogs players competed exclusively in singles this season, they were paired up for the league tournament. The two pulled off some upsets to place third in league.

In the third-place game, Gharabegi and Basco defeated Arcadia’s No. 1 duo of Michelle Zhu and Elizabeth Lieu, 8-4.

In the semifinals, the Bulldogs fell to eventual-champions, Sarah Ali and Karen Ataian of Crescenta Valley, 6-1, 6-0.

Gharabegi and Basco earned a spot in the semifinals with two victories in the league preliminaries Monday at the same venue.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burroughs wins tournament championship: The Indians captured the Silver Division title in the Crescenta Valley Tournament Oct. 29-30 at Crescenta Valley High.

In the championship contest, Burroughs defeated Righetti, 25-14, 25-9. Megan Stephenson had nine kills, Kathy Henry added six and Catarina Emerson and Victoria Santos had 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

In the championship round, the Indians also notched a win against Holy Family, 25-8, 25-7. Stephenson had 14 assists and Emerson had 16 Digs.

The locals also received nine kills from Henry and seven from Stephenson in a 25-14, 25-18 victory against South Pasadena.

In pool play, Burroughs was defeated by Taft, 25-17, 23-25, 15-10. Stephenson had 10 kills and Henry added seven.

In a 25-15, 25-14 win against Righetti, Stephenson had 11 kills, Henry added nine and Emerson had 15 digs.

Also in pool play, Burroughs lost to Los Altos, 27-25, 25-16.

Bell-Jeff d. St. Mary’s Academy, 25-3, 25-7, 25-17: The Guards rolled to an easy Santa Cruz League win Oct. 26 at home.

Jocelyn Cervantes had eight kills and eight aces and Breanna Padron had seven aces and 14 assists.

Bell-Jeff d. Chatsworth, 25-12, 25-2, 25-15: Jocelyn Cervantes tallied 14 kills to pace the Guards to a nonleague win Oct. 27 at home.

FOOTBALL

Burbank Vikings: The Burbank Vikings Youth Tackle Football program’s Bantam Black, Pee-Wee and Midget Green teams ended the regular season with shutout wins Oct. 30.

Bantam Black (7-1) earned a 30-0 victory against Calabasas Red, the Pee-Wees (6-1) notched a 30-0 win against Canyon and Midget Green (5-3-0) beat the Santa Clarita Blackhawks 36-0.

Also earning wins were the Junior Gold (5-3), which downed Calabasas Black, 48-20, the Midget Black (4-4), which beat Calabasas Black, 42-6, and the Bantam Green (5-3), which got by Castaic Gold, 38-13.

In losing efforts, the Senior Black (4-3) fell to Calabasas Black, 32-22, Senior Green (2-6) was defeated by the Santa Clarita Chiefs, 46-6, the Junior Green (2-5) lost to Calabasas Silver, 34-8, and Bantam White (5-3) was downed by Valley Black, 36-6.
