Burbank wins CIF match on games

BOYS’ TENNIS

Burbank 9, Ayala 9 (Burbank wins on games, 74-69): The Bulldogs were able to notch a win on the road Tuesday in a wild-card match of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs.

Burbank, the No. 4 team from the Pacific League, will take on host Santa Monica — the Ocean League champion — at 3 p.m. today in a first-round match.

The Bulldogs (7-7) received six points from their doubles trio.

SOFTBALL

Burroughs 15, Muir 2: The Indians remained in a tie for first place in the Pacific League with a win Tuesday at Olive Park in a game was called after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Burroughs (18-7, 12-1 in league) received a five game from pitcher Kayla Dalley, who threw a complete game, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out four.

Jessica Rodriguez was three for three with three runs scored and a run batted in, Quinn Rodriguez and Haley Schulman each hit home runs and Dalley was two for three with a triple and an RBI.

Providence 10, Liberty Christian 2: Bronwyn Stewart pitched a complete game, allowing no earned runs and striking out six to help pace the Pioneers to a nonleague win Tuesday.

Caitie Guttry slugged a grand slam in the fifth inning for Providence (10-10). Teammate Gian-Mari Llaguno went four for five with and a triple, Jackie Brewer had two hits in two at-bats, Natalie Ficocelli was two for three with a double and Natalie Ohrt was two for two.

Village Christian in El Segundo Tournament: Burbank resident Emily Seidel helped her team capture the tournament championship Saturday.

Seidel, a senior pitcher who is headed to the University of Nevada Reno, was named the tournament’s most valuable player. She went 3-0 in the event and had 39 strikeouts and three walks in 20 1/3 innings. At the plate, she was six for 10 with seven runs batted in and three home runs.

The Crusaders (14-10) defeated Torrance, 4-2, and host El Segundo, 4-0, to advance to the championship game against North Torrance.

In the title game, Seidel had 15 strikeouts and two walks in scattering eight hits to help pace Village Christian to a 5-2 victory. She also had a hit, walked twice and scored a run.

BOYS’ GOLF

CIF Southern Section Northern Team Divisional: Burroughs placed 12th with a 429 and Burbank was 15th with a 443 in the event Monday at Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai.

BASEBALL

Arcadia 3, Burbank 0: The Bulldogs weren’t able to take advantage of their eight hits in dropping the Pacific League game Friday at home.

The Apaches scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Jawn Robins was two for three and Dylan Mersola, Paul Frias, Ryan Favor, Chris Okmoto, Daniel Starkand and Tyler Do had hits for Burbank.
