Football stringers needed
The Burbank Leader, Glendale News-Press and La Cañada Sun newspapers are looking for stringers to cover high school football teams in the fall.

Writers will cover the three local programs — Burbank, Burroughs and Bellarmine- Jefferson — as well as teams in the Glendale, La Crescenta and La Cañada areas.

Individuals should have a knowledge of football, some writing experience and have samples of his or her work. In addition, a knowledge of statistic keeping is a must. Writers would work mostly on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.

Individuals will be paid for their work and have their stories appear in print.

Vikings looking for head coach
The Burbank Vikings Youth Tackle Football program is looking for a head coach for one of its teams.

The league is open to boys and girls 8 to 14 who will play on age- and weight-specific teams. Teams will play a conference schedule against other programs.

The Vikings squads compete against programs from other cities in conference games, with home contests played Saturdays at Burbank High.


There is also a homecoming.

The Vikings’ organization has developed players who have gone on to success in high school, college and the NFL.

Skills and drill football camp
Players 6-14 who would like to improve their football skills can do so at the Skills and Drill Youth Football Camp.

The camp will take place from 8 a.m. to noon, July 11-14, at the Burbank High football field.
The cost is $100, and additional siblings are $50.


The non-contact camp is designed to teach young players proper techniques when running, catching, throwing, tackling or blocking. Each camper will learn eight specific drills.

Included in the camp will be instruction from current high school and college coaches (no students), team competitions, flag games, motivational topics, awards for top performers, a camp T-shirt and lunch will be provided.

Youth football camp offered
Burroughs High football Coach Keith Knoop, in conjunction with the Burbank Vikings Youth Tackle Football program, will be conducting his ninth annual Youth Football Camp from 8 p.m. to noon, July 11-14 at Luther Burbank Middle School.

The non-contact camp is open to players 5-17. The cost is $100, and additional siblings are $50.

Athletes will receive lunch each day and a camp T-shirt.


At the event, players will learn basic football skills with innovative, up-to-date coaching techniques to help benefit offensive and defensive linemen, running backs, quarterbacks, wide receivers, linebackers and defensive backs.

In addition, the camp will encourage individual, team and sportsmanship concepts of football.

Providence volleyball camp set
Under the direction of Coach Mark Mina, the Providence Premier Volleyball Camp will take place in two sessions.

The camp, open to players who will be in the second through eighth grades in the fall, will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. August 8-11 at Providence High.

The cost is $100, and there is extended care offered every day from 2-5 p.m. for an additional $60.

Mina is the director of Club West Pasadena Volleyball Club and a member of the Providence volleyball staff. In addition, he’s also coached at La Salle, Mayfield and Immaculate Heart.

Girls travel hoop team forming
Vicky Oganyan is organizing a travel basketball team for girls in the Burbank area who are in the in sixth through eighth grades.

The goal of the team is to improve players’ basketball skills and knowledge of the game and prepare them for high school competition.

Players must be in the sixth, seventh or eighth grades in the fall.
Oganyan is the head girls’ coach at Burroughs High.
