Burbank boys win invitational

Burbank in Brea Cross-Country Invitational: Despite missing some of their top senior runners, the Bulldogs boys’ team placed first in the event Saturday at Carbon Canyon Park in Brea.

The meet was broken up into three races and the results from the races were combined to get a final team score. Burbank had a combined time of 1 hour, 25 minutes, 53 seconds and was followed by Saugus (1:26:54). Pacific League rival Arcadia was fourth (1:29:35).

Burbank was paced by Isaiah Amos, who won the race in 16:32. He was followed closely by Sergio Fraire (third; 16:36). The other Bulldogs scorers were Bernie Corea (seventh; 17:10), Arsen Mkrtchyan (17th; 17:44) and Mustafa Nguyen (21st; 17:52). The other Burbank finishers were Elliot Choe (24th; 18:00) and Andrew Wernstrum (33rd; 18:15).

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Burroughs 13, Pasadena 3: Singles player Abby Kelley swept her sets, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, Tuesday to help the Indians earn a Pacific League win at home.

YOUTH FOOTBALL

Burbank Vikings: The Junior Black squad remained as the area youth tackle program’s lone undefeated team as it earned a 54-20 victory Saturday in a Week 4 game.

The Junior Black is 3-0.

Also earning wins was the Senior Black (3-1) against Ventura Black, 26-0, Junior Green (1-2) against Oxnard, 36-8, Midget Black (3-1) against Simi Black, 36-6, Bantam Black (2-1) against Camarillo White, 55-28, and Bantam Green against Valley Orange, 32-2.

Suffering losses was Senior Gold (1-3) against North Oxnard Red, 40-8, Junior White (1-3) against Simi, 28-0, Midget Green (2-2-0) against Castaic Gold, 36-14, Pee-Wee Black (2-2) against Santa Clarita Valley Cheyenne, 16-0, and Pee-Wee White (1-3) against Thousand Oaks, 8-0.
