Salomon places first in league

Charles Salomon of Bellarmine-Jefferson High won the boys’ race Wednesday at the Santa Fe League finals at Griffith Park.

Salomon, who finished in 16 minutes 28 seconds on the three-mile course, helped pace the Guards to a second-place finish.

Salesian won the meet with 30 points and was followed by the Guards (59), Verbum Dei (76), St. Genevieve (83) and St. Anthony (106).

The other Bell-Jeff boys’ scorers were Nathan Guzman (eighth; 17:33), Gabriel Ellman (ninth; 17:46), Anthony Zapata (16th; 18:20) and Fernando DeLaPena (25th; 20:26).

In the girls’ Santa Cruz League race, Bell-Jeff placed fourth. St. Mary’s won the meet with 39 points and was followed by St. Matthias (63) and St. Genevieve (63), the Guards (84) and St. Anthony (119).

Bell-Jeff’s top finisher was Mackenzie Dowling, who placed fifth in 22:32. She was followed by Sarah Alas-Viana (14th; 24:16), Jessica Pareyra (15th; 24:39), Keiry Gutierrez (22nd; 26:33) and Emily Arrue (28th; 28:21).
