Benedicto steps up in victory

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 55, Crossroads 37: Bea Benedicto stepped up to tally 18 points and nine rebounds Monday in a Viewpoint Tournament game.

Providence jumped put to a 14-5 lead after one quarter.

Catherine Saint added 12 points, five assists, five steals and three blocked shots, Nicole Mungues had 10 points and five steals, Janel Adraneda had nine rebounds and Katia Dabbaghian had eight rebounds, five assists a three blocked shots for the Pioneers.

Burroughs in Valencia High Five Classic. The Indians sent 1-3 in the tournament and ended the event with two losses.

Friday, Burroughs fell to Saugus, 50-37. April Harris had 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals for the Indians (1-3). Delaney Nicol and Gabriella Pineiro had seven points each and Davina Del Castillo had 17 rebounds and three steals.

Burroughs was also defeated by Kennedy, 43-36. Sidney Ortega had 10 points and Pineiro had seven points and 10 rebounds, Jakarra Waddell had seven rebounds and four blocks and Harris had four steals.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Burroughs 3, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 0: The Indians earned a nonleague victory Tuesday on the road.

Norberto Alcantar scored two goals and Alex Avelar-Escalante added one for Burroughs.

The match was scoreless after the first half.

West Ranch freshmen 3, Burroughs freshmen 0: The Indians couldn’t notch a nonleague win in a physical match at Luther Burbank Middle School.

Alberto Rodriguez, Timothy Monson and Jesus Nunez played well on defense for Burroughs, while Michael Mirzabegi did a good job in the midfield and forward David Campos also played a solid contest.
