Pioneers outplayed
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Villanova Prep 46, Providence 27: The Pioneers fell behind early and couldn’t dig their way out in suffering a nonleague loss at home.
Villanova is ranked No. 2 and Providence is tied for third in CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA.
Providence (18-4) was outscored, 9-0, in the first quarter and trailed at the half, 17-10. The Pioneers were also outscored in the fourth quarter, 12-4. The team was eight-for-59 shooting.
Bea Benedicto paced Providence with 13 points Teammate Catherine Saint added six points and Katia Dabbaghian had four steals.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Burroughs 5, Muir 2: Francisco Baez scored a hat trick and also had an assist Tuesday to pace the Indians to a Pacific League win at Luther Burbank Middle School.
Baez has tallied seven goals in the past two contests.
Burroughs jumped out to a 5-2 lead at the half.
Nolbero Alcanter had a goal and three assists and Austin Ross had a goal and an assist for pace Burroughs (7-8-3, 6-3-2 in league).
The win keeps the Indians in second place in league.
