Pioneers continue to roll

BASEBALL

Providence 17, Southwestern Academy 7: The Pioneers improved to 6-2 with a nonleague win Thursday at Pote Field.

The game was called in the fifth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Providence went winless last season.

Aaron Ziegler was three for four with three runs scored and two runs batted in. He also pitched a complete game with six strikeouts in five innings, allowed only two earned runs.

Mason Inumerable, Anthony Galvan and Edwin Toribio had two hits apiece for the Pioneers.

Burbank 12, Muir 0: The Bulldogs hammered out 13 hits Tuesday to roll to victory in a Pacific League game at home.

The game was called in the fifth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Harrison Hernandez went two for three with four runs batted in and two runs scored to pace the Bulldogs on offense. Teammate John White was three for three with two RBI and Paul Frias was two for three with a double, triple, two RBI and two runs scored.

Five Burbank pitchers limited the Mustangs to three hits.

BOYS’ GOLF

Burroughs and Burbank in Pacific League Match No. 3: The Indians and Bulldogs finished second and fourth, respectively, on Thursday in a league match at Santa Anita Golf Course.

Burroughs (12-9, 7-5 in league) shot a 395 and received a 70 from Kelsey Danzeisen. Sean White finished with a 79 for the Indians, who got an 81 from Sivakorn Losakul, an 82 from Patrick Colbert and an 83 from Chris Kesicbasian.

Burbank (7-10, 4-9) received a 76 from Brady Dunayer, an 83 from Andy Chung, 86s from Kevin Chong and Roman Verciglio and an 89 from Ben Park.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Burroughs 14, Glendale 4: Singles players Calvin Fox and Michael Whelan dropped just five games between them as they earned sweeps to help lead the Indians to a Pacific League win Thursday at home.

Fox won his sets, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, and Whelan went, 6-3, 6-1, 6-0.

The win allows Burroughs (9-2 in league) to remain in second place in league.

Burroughs 15, Crescenta Valley 3: The Indians received a singles sweep and easily won the Pacific League match Tuesday on the road.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burroughs d. Crescenta Valley, 25-13, 25-21, 25-17: The Indians remained undefeated and in first place in the Pacific League with a win Friday at home.

Burroughs (17-3, 10-0) receiced seven kills each from Robbie Rutecki and Daniel Jacobs.

TheIndians are ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division III.

Burbank d. Glendale, 25-16, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21: The Bulldogs received 10 kills from Elijah Cowart and nine kills and four blocks from Paolo Fabregar in the Pacific League victory Tuesday.

James Kim had 17 digs and three aces and Armen Sargsyan had 31 assists and 11 digs for Burbank (6-13, 2-6).

SOFTBALL

Providence 12, Sierra Canyon 7: The Pioneers fell behind early but fought their way back for the victory Thursday at Olive Park.

Caitie Guttry pitched a complete game, striking out four.

Phylizia Carrillo had a two-run home run to go along with a single, Estelle Glorioso had two hits and drove in two runs, Gian-Mari Llaguno had a hit and an RBI and Guttry had a hit and two RBI.
