Winning season for Providence

BASEBALL

La Verne Lutheran 10, Providence 0: Despite the loss Thursday in the regular-season finale on the road that pitted the two top Division VI Freelance teams, the Pioneers put together a winning season.

The Pioneers end the season with a 9-4 record, the most wins by the program in a decade. Last season, Providence went 0-12.

“I am very proud of the boys,” Coach Steve Knez said. “We came a long way from where we were a year ago and the program is now headed in the right direction.”

Providence 16, Harvest Christian 4: Henry Hong was two for two with a home run, triple and three runs batted in to pace the Pioneers to a nonleague victory Tuesday at Northwest Park.

SOFTBALL

Providence 17, Oakwood 5: The Pioneers had an easy time earning the Liberty League win Monday at Olive Park.

Jackie Brewer had a grand slam, Caitie Guttry had two hits, including a double, Ashley Corral and Tabitha had two hits each, Gian-Mari Llaguno had a hit and stole a base and Estelle Glorioso had a hit and two stolen bases for Providence.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burroughs freshmen d. Claremont freshmen, 25-18, 25-20: For the third year in a row, Coach Art Yanez’s team captured the Pacific League championship, going undefeated in the process.

The Indians went 10-2 and captured the league title with an 8-0 mark.
