Burbank volleyball team victorious in four

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burbank d. West Ranch, 25-18, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22: Rachael Woods had a team-high 16 kills and teammate Jamie Gonzalez added 12 kills to help pace the Bulldogs to a nonleague victory Thursday at home.

Juliana Marx had eight kills, four digs and two aces, Stefanie Lin had 11 digs and Tyler Brooks had 25 assists, 11 digs and three aces for Burbank.

Bellarmine-Jefferson d. Hoover, 25-17, 25-11, 25-14: The Guards rolled to an easy nonleague win Thursday at home.

Mariah Bankhead paced Bell-Jeff with nine kills to go along with two blocks. Teammate Taryn Nelson added three kills and 14 digs, Brianna Hillo had five kills and Amanda Malloof tallied 14 assists.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Burbank 21, San Marino 8: The Bulldogs came on in the final three quarters to earn a nonleague victory Tuesday afternoon at home.

The Titans only trailed, 5-2, after one quarter, but saw their deficit grow to 11-4 at halftime and then 16-7 after three quarters.

Burbank’s David Nazanan led the Bulldogs with nine goals.

Burroughs 18, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 7: Daniel Mairena tallied seven goals Tuesday to pace the Indians to a nonleague win at home.

Kevin Ueno added four goals and Casey Ueno had three for Burroughs. In goal, Dillon Weigand made 11 saves.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Burbank: Bulldogs sophomore Irene Maemura is off to a successful start of the season, capturing medalist honors in three of Burbank’s last four matches.

In a nonleague contest Thursday against Golden Valley at Hansen Dam Golf Course, Maemura wasn’t the medalist but she still turned in a strong effort, finishing with a three-over-par 40. Teammate Tess Apinchapong had a 43 and Alexis Poche had a 56.

Facing West Ranch in a nonleague match Wednesday at Vista Valencia Golf Course, Maemura fired an even-par 33 for the lowest score of the contest. Apinchapong had a 44, Alexis Poche had a 55, Susie Miller had a 69 and Caitlin McGrath had a 61.

Against West Ranch Tuesday at Hansen Dam Golf Course, Maemura shot a one-under-par 35 to win medalist honors. Apinchapong had a 43 and Poche improved by 13 strokes from the day before to end with a 58.

Burbank faced Canyon on Aug. 28 in a nonleague match at De Bell Golf Club. Maemura earned medalist honors by firing a one-under-par 36. Apinchapong had a 49.

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, they lost all four matches.
