Burroughs boys’ volleyball team has fine start

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burroughs d. West Ranch, 25-23, 27-25, 25-14: The Indians enjoyed a successful season opener with a win Wednesday on the road.

Daniel Jacobs led the way with 11 kills, nine digs and seven aces. Teammate Daniel Marbach added eight kills and Shayne Beamer had seven. BJ Lagmay led the Burroughs offense with 25 assists.

San Marino d. Burbank: 18-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 15-10: The Bulldogs lost a close nonleague match Thursday at home.

Derian Blandon and Justin Saisirikul had nine kills each, Elijah Cowart had 19 digs, Josh Wright had four blocks and Ryan Garcia had 34 assists for Burbank.

BASEBALL

Thousand Oaks 2, Burbank 1: The Bulldogs lost a competitive contest Thursday at home in an Easton Tournament game.

Burbank (1-2) had a runner thrown out at home in the bottom of the seventh inning and also had the bases loaded in the frame but couldn’t score.

Angel Villagran had two hits and drove in Burbank’s only run in the second inning.

Burbank 10, Simi Valley 7 (eight innings): Ian McKinnon delivered the game-winning hit and the Bulldogs pushed across the winning run in the eighth to earn the win Tuesday in an Easton Tournament game on the road.

Dylan Mersola and Angel Villagran (two for three) drove in two runs each for Burbank, which had a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Burroughs 12, Hoover 6: The Indians opened the Pacific League with a victory Tuesday on the road.

BOYS’ GOLF

Burbank 208, Pasadena 269: Brady Dunayer shot a three-over-par 38 Wednesday to pace the Bulldogs to a nonleague win at Alta Dena Golf Course.

Jason Apinchapong and Roman Vercigilo shot 41s, Blake Newton had a 43 and Dylan Sherry had a 45 for Burbank.

Burbank 211, Hart 220: The Bulldogs rolled to a nonleague victory Tuesday at De Bell Golf Club.

Roman Verciglio earned medalist honors after firing a 39. Andy Chung, Jason Apinchapong and Dylan Sherry all fired 41s for Burbank, while Brady Dunayer had a 49.

Burbank 217, Canyon 238: Jason Apinchapong shot a 36 to capture low medalist honors Monday in the nonleague match at Robinson Ranch Golf Course.

Brady Dunayer had a 44, Andy Chung had a 45 and Dylan Sherry and Roman Vercigilo had 46s for Burbank.

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Canyon 118, Burroughs 18: The Indians received four second-place finishes Thursday in a nonleague loss at Memorial Field.

While Gracia Innocentia was second in the 3,200 meters in 11 minutes 47.3 seconds, Johanna Reyes was runner-up in the 300 hurdles (53.9), Ashley Sapone was second in the discus (79 feet 5) and Carissa Jackson was second in the 100 hurdles (18.2).

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Canyon 115, Burroughs 20: The Indians received a first-place finish from Brian Jones in the shot put (42 feet 5 1/2) in the nonleague loss Thursday at Memorial Field.

Robert Martinez was second in the 400 meters (54.0), Garrett Manoukian was second in the triple jump (38 feet 2) and Ermar Cruz was second in the discus (101-9) for Burroughs.
