The Burroughs High boys’ volleyball team was poised for a lengthy run in the CIF Southern Section playoffs this season.

However, after making it to the championship match and the semifinals the past two years in Division III, the Indians were moved up to Division II this season.

Riding a win in its opener two days earlier, Burroughs was hoping to punch its ticket to the quarterfinals with a win Thursday at Dos Pueblos. However, instead of advancing, the Indians saw their season come to an end with a 25-19, 24-26, 25-12, 25-20 loss.

“We played our worst match on the wrong day,” Burroughs Coach Joel Brinton said.

The Indians (21-8) end the season after winning a share of the Pacific League championship. It was the third consecutive season Burroughs has won the title.

Burroughs rode the momentum of the championship into its first-round playoff contest Tuesday. In a home match, the Indians defeated Long Beach Millikan, 25-10, 25-12, 20-25, 25-12.

But they ran into a talented Dos Pueblos team that placed third in the Channel League.

After falling in the first game, Burroughs came back and was involved in a tight contest in the second. However, the Indians played well in the frame and were able to even the match and one game apiece.

But Dos Pueblos came roaring back to easily win the third game and closed things out in the fourth.

The Chargers came into the contest after winning their playoff opener against Arroyo Grande, 19-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-22.

In Thursday’s match. Burroughs was paced by Daniel Jacobs, who had a team-high 17 kills. Shayne Beamer had 10 kills and Daniel Marbach added eight to go along with nine digs. BJ Lagmay tallied 43 assists and Danny Casillas added 11 digs for Burroughs.
