Burbank boys’ basketball advances to Glendora Tournament final

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Burbank 54, South Pasadena 42: The Bulldogs earned the victory Friday night and advanced to the finals of the Glendora Tournament.

Burbank (5-2) will take on Damien at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the championship contest.

“We just really played well on defense and we were able to shut down their big shooters,” Burbank Coach Jerry DeLaurie said. “They came out in a 1-3-1 defense set and we were able to break through it. We scouted them and the kids really stuck to the game plan.”

The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers, 16-7, in the fourth quarter.

Anthony Kardosh paced Burbank with 19 points.

“This is a very respectable tournament with some very respectable teams,” DeLaurie said. “I am just so proud of our guys to be able to get to the championship game of this tournament.”

Burbank 55, Rowland 51: The Bulldogs advanced to the semifinals of the Glendora Tournament with a victory Wednesday.

The Bulldogs converted nine of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter in pull out the win.

Richard Elmoyan paced Burbank with 15 points.

Providence 61, St. Paul 41: The Pioneers moved to 3-2 on the season with a win Thursday in the El Rancho Tournament.

Burroughs 84, Rosemead 30: Amaad Wainright had 32 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, five blocks and four steals to pace the Indians to a win in the Pasadena Poly Tournament on Thursday.

Rashid Ewing added 23 points and eight rebounds and Steven Hubbell chipped in 10 points for Burroughs (4-2).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Agoura 72, Burbank 57: Ashley Linda and Yazzy Sa’Dullah tallied 20 points each Friday for the Bulldogs (5-3) in a consolation-round loss in the Burroughs Magnolia Park Optimist Club Tournament at Burroughs High.

Brentwood 64, Burbank 53: Yazzy Sa’Dullah finished with 25 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Bulldogs on Thursday in a quarterfinal game of the Burroughs Magnolia Park Optimist Club Tournament at Burroughs High.

Sharis Ghazeri added 13 points for Burbank.

Canyon Country Canyon 40, Burroughs 38: The Indians lost at the buzzer Thursday in a quarterfinal game of their own Burroughs Magnolia Park Optimist Club Tournament at Burroughs.

Davina Del Castillo paced Burroughs with eight points, 16 rebounds and eight steals. Jakarra Waddel added nine points and seven rebounds.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Canyon Country Canyon 5, Burroughs 0: Missing five starters, the Indians suffered a nonleague loss Tuesday.

Burroughs trailed just 1-0 at halftime, but Canyon scored four goals in the second half.
