Burbank boys’ basketball falls in tourney title game

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Damien 77, Burbank 44: The Bulldogs were outscored by a combined 28 points in the second and fourth quarters and fell in the championship game of the Glendora Tournament on Saturday.

Anthony Kardosh was the lone double-digit scorer for the Bulldogs (5-3), as he led his squad with 16 points and four rebounds.

Danny Terrones and Richard Elmoyan added seven points apiece.

Burbank only trailed, 14-12, after one quarter, but Damian outscored Burbank by 10 in the second quarter in taking a 36-24 advantage into the break.

While the Bulldogs were down, 52-37, after three quarters, they lost the fourth quarter, 25-7.

Burbank defeated South Pasadena (54-42), Rowland (55-51) and Sierra Vista (74-30) in advancing to the tournament championship game.

Dorsey 73, Bellarmine-Jefferson 71: The Guards had the lead with a minute to go, but couldn’t hold on for a win Saturday in the fifth-place game of the Jim Nakabara Classic at Los Angeles University High.

Bell-Jeff (2-3) was paced by Clark Thomas, who poured in 27 points, which included a five-for-five effort from three-point range. Teammates Parker Williams and Abid Oses added 16 points each.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Agoura 46 Burroughs 45: The Indians fell Saturday in a consolation game of the Burroughs Magnolia Park Optimist Club Tournament.

Davina Del Castillo had nine points, six rebounds and seven steals, Jakarra Waddell had eight points and 11 rebounds, Sidney Ortega had nine points and Brooke Radcliff chipped in seven points for Burroughs (5-4).

Agoura scored the winning basket with 40 seconds remaining.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Burroughs 1, West Ranch 1: A penalty kick in stoppage time allowed the Wildcats to salvage a tie with the visiting Indians Tuesday in a nonleague game.

VJ Salizar scored on a corner from Brandon Gerlach in the 15th minute to account for the lone goal for Burroughs (5-1-1).
