Roundup: Burbank girls’ basketball starts league with lopsided win
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Burbank 63, Pasadena 20: The local Bulldogs began Pacific League play Tuesday in fine fashion with an easy victory at home.
Playing without starter Ashley Linda, who is sidelined with a broken foot, Yazzy Sa’Dullah did much of the damage for Burbank (9-6), scoring a game-high 16 points. Teammate Ratina Karapet added 13 points and nine steals and Abby Troy came off the bench to contribute nine points and seven rebounds.
Burroughs 71, Hoover 29: Paula Galicia had a big game for the Indians, pouring in 20 points to go along with four steals to pace the hosts to a victory Tuesday in their Pacific League opener.
Sidney Ortega added 11 points and Jakarra Waddell contributed nine points, five rebounds and four assists for Burroughs (9-6).
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Pasadena 69, Burbank 52: Despite playing defending league champion Pasadena close for the first two quarters, Burbank wasn’t able to pull out the win Tuesday in the Pacific League opener for both teams.
Burbank (6-7) trailed, 33-32, at the half.
Burbank received 17 points from Adam Pasco and 12 from freshman Mike Woods.
Bellarmine-Jefferson 67, Franklin 56: The Guards won their second straight game in the Huntington Park Tournament with a win Tuesday at Huntington Park High.
Malcolm Regisford had 22 points and Isaac Etter added 21 to power Bell-Jeff (7-5).
The Guards will continue the tournament at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday with a game against Carson.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Burroughs 4, Hoover 0: The Indians began defense of their Pacific League championship with a shutout win Tuesday at Hoover.
The Indians (6-2-1) were paced by Milosh Petko, who had two goals and an assist. Teammate Ashot Veisyan had two goals of his own and Brandon Gerlach had two assists.
Burroughs goalkeeper Alberto Meir had to make just one save in earning the shutout.
Pasadena 4, Burbank 0: Burbank (1-5) couldn’t generate any offense in falling Tuesday in its Pacific League opener on the road.

Burroughs 6, Hoover 0: Noelle Garcia tallied two goals Tuesday for the Indians (2-6), who opened Pacific League play with a victory at home.
