Roundup: Burroughs track teams earn sweep against Glendale


Burroughs 100, Glendale 36: Niko Guerrero had a fine day for the Indians in the Pacific League meet Thursday on the road, winning three events.

Along with placing first in the 100 meters in 11.2 seconds, Guerrero also won the 200 (22.9) and the triple jump (41 feet 3 3/4 inches). Ricky Mendez was a double-winner, taking the 800 (2:04) and the 1,600 (4:29), as was Corwin Scherer in the 100 hurdles (15.7) and 300 hurdles (40.8).

Other Burroughs winners were Robert Martinez in the 400 (50.3), Shane Thompson in the 3,200 (9:44), Matt Schwartz in the pole vault (13 feet) and Andrew Williams in the long jump.


Burroughs 82, Glendale 53: Alejandra Moreno, Ashley Sapone and Sarah Prystupa won two events each Thursday to power the Indians to a Pacific League victory on the road.

While Moreno won the 100 meters (12.8 seconds) and the 200 (27.1), Sapone took the shot put (29 feet 7 1/2) and the discus (78-3) and Prystupa was first in the pole vault (7-6) and the long jump (15-11).

Other winners for Burroughs were Sara Ehlers in the 800 (2:31), Ashley Contreras in the 1,600 (5:41), Eileen Eckles in the 3,200 (12:22), Jordan Meltzer in the high jump (4-6) and Laura Rodriguez in the triple jump (30-3).


Providence 5, Milken Community 4: The Pioneers pulled off a game-ending double play to preserve the nonleague victory Thursday at Encino Little League Fields.

With runners on first and third and the game on the line in the bottom of the seventh inning, Dante Cano rolled up a 6-4-3 double-play ball and the Pioneers (6-3) walked away with the victory.

Mason Inumerable had three hits in the contest, while Jonathan Max and Ryan Chow had two hits apiece. Chow had the eventual game-winning RBI with two outs in the sixth inning, scoring Max, who singled and stole second base.


Burbank 25, Pasadena 0 (five innings): The Bulldogs hammered out 21 hits Thursday to earn the Pacific League victory at McCambridge Park.

Pitcher Caitlyn Brooks had a big day for Burbank (7-3, 2-0 in league), teaming up with Hanna Moulton on a combined perfect game. Brooks also hit for the cycle, which included a grand slam and eight runs batted in.


Providence d. Milken Community, 23-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-18, 15-11: The Pioneers (7-9) battled back to win the nonleague contest Wednesday on the road.


Glendale 14, Burroughs 4: The Indians (3-5, 2-5) couldn't win the Pacific League contest Thursday against the Nitros.
