Burbank man, woman charged with residential burglary after Tuesday arrest

Two would-be burglars were caught early this week after a resident reportedly confronted one of them climbing through the window of his Burbank home, police said.

At around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a home in the 500 block of North Lomita Street, where the residents had been awoken by two people — later identified as David Fredericks, 55, and Francesca Beltran, 42 — trying to break in to their house, said Burbank Police Sgt. Claudio Losacco.

After the pair were unsuccessful in getting through the locked back door, they allegedly opened a kitchen window, Losacco said.

Fredericks was reportedly climbing through the window when confronted by the resident, while Beltran brandished what was later determined to be a toy gun.

The duo fled and allegedly broke into a parked car about a block away on Chandler Boulevard and Shelton Street, where officers found them in fewer than three minutes, Losacco said. The toy gun was recovered.

Both suspects live in Burbank.

Fredericks, who police said is required to register as a sex offender, was convicted of indecent exposure in 2004 and has prior convictions for drug-related offenses, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records.

Meanwhile, in the last year, Beltran has been convicted twice of burglary and vandalism, as well as of receiving stolen property, grand theft and possessing drug paraphernalia, records show.

Both Fredericks and Beltran were charged Wednesday with residential burglary and are each being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, Losacco said.

Beltran pleaded not guilty to the charge on Thursday, while Fredericks is slated to be arraigned next week, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
