Light show emerges as winner in Burbank’s holiday decorating contest

The light show at Alan Falkner’s home won first place in the residential category of the city’s 32nd annual Holiday Decorating Contest, the second time he’s earned the honor.
The contest is judged by the Burbank Civic Pride Committee, which selected the top three entrants in both residential and commercial categories. This year, there were no entries in the youth category.
Committee chairwoman Linda Silvas encouraged more home decorators to enter the contest next year. At a presentation honoring the winners during a Burbank City Council meeting last week, she said homes are not judged by the grandeur of the decorations, but the “holiday spirit.”
Falkner, who is a field service engineer for a lighting-equipment manufacturer, received second place last year for his lighting system synchronized to six songs that passersby could tune into on a radio thanks to a low-power FM transmitter. The setup is back, but this year he added an RGB (red, green and blue) pixel star on the roof.
He said his decorations celebrate “the light of the world coming into the world.”
The light show at 1316 N. Catalina St. begins daily at 5 p.m. and runs through 11 p.m. Falkner said the lights will stay up at least until Jan. 4.
