On the Town: Fun is in the cards at NCL’s casino night

Members of the Burbank chapter of National Charity League were joined by their family members, friends and supporters as well as school and city officials for an evening of fun and fundraising at the Castaway restaurant this past week.

Mothers in the organization are known as Patronesses, while their daughters are Ticktockers.

Convening for its annual Mardi Gras Casino Night, the local league chapter, which is celebrating its 54th year, was honored to welcome special guests including Burbank Mayor Emily Gabel-Luddy, Burbank School Board Vice President Roberta Reynolds, City Treasurer Debbie Kukta and Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority President Sue Georgino.

Other notable guests included Barbara Howell, executive director of the Burbank Temporary Aid Center, and Vicki Williams, who serves on the executive committee overseeing the organization that provides emergency aid to families and individuals in need.

“We are very proud of the volunteer service our Ticktockers have provided to (the Burbank Temporary Aid Center) and so many other nonprofit and charitable organizations here in Burbank,” said Kim Kaufman, president of the league’s Burbank chapter. “This past year, we have continued our work with groups that touch the lives of just about every Burbank resident in one way or another.”

Along with the Burbank Temporary Aid Center, local Ticktockers provided more than 8,000 hours of community service in 2013 to A Place to Grow, the Boys & Girls Club, the Burbank Library, Burbank On Parade, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, the Colony Theater, the Burbank Coordinating Council, the Kids’ Community Dental Clinic, the Family Service Agency of Burbank, Friends At Play, the Burbank Historical Society and the Burbank YMCA Child Care Center.

Local senior-class Ticktockers, many of whom were in attendance at last week’s event, include Sabrina Fielder, Tamar Tellado, Olivia Marriott, Isabelle Caronna, Hannah Docherty, Danielle Rodriguez, Gracie Roebuck and Isabella Dolendo.

Chartered in 1960, the Burbank chapter of National Charity League is an affiliate of the national mother-daughter organization that focuses on empowering young women in seventh through 12th grades to succeed as confident, well-rounded and socially aware contributors in their communities.

The chapter’s activities fulfill the national league’s mission to foster mother-daughter relationships in a philanthropic organization committed to community service, leadership development and cultural experiences.

Last week’s event, chaired by Burbank Unified School Board member Charlene Tabet, was made possible by her committee members Theresa Treadway, Carol Fielder, Olivia Boyce and Michelle Duarte.

Others whose presence and support made for a successful evening were Chris and Natalie Augustine, Richard and Ruth Baenen, John and Patty Dilibert, Mark Kaufman and Jane and Don Pinkerton.
