Sports roundup: Burroughs golf’s Riggs wins league match

Burroughs, Burbank in Pacific League match No. 2: Indians golfer Maddie Riggs fired a 37 to earn medalist honors Wednesday at Hansen Dam Golf Course.
In a close contest, Arcadia finished first with a team total of 209 and was followed by San Marino (210), Burroughs (211), Crescenta Valley (234), La Cañada (256) and Burbank (281).
For Burroughs, Annie Adachi shot a 40, Ashley Phelps had a 43, Raelinn Arnold had a 45 and Gabija Petrulis had a 46.
Burbank was paced by Amy Tran, who shot a 42, and was followed by Olga Marie Davis with a 55, Pawee Akkharachotmongkhol with a 56, Cassie Vargas at 62 and Erin Tanner with a 66.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Burbank d. Hoover, 25-14, 25-10, 25-18: The Bulldogs rolled to a win to open Pacific League play Thursday afternoon at home.
Burbank is 3-0 overall.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Arcadia 15, Burroughs 3: The Indians (1-2, 1-1 in Pacific League) were no match for the defending league and CIF Southern Section champion Apaches Thursday afternoon in a match on the road.
Milken Community 18, Providence 0: The Pioneers kicked off their season and a new program with a nonleague loss Thursday afternoon at the Van Nuys Tennis Ranch.
“Everyone played. A lot of people played in their very first tennis match ever and did a great job,” Providence Coach Mark Pfau said. “They have a great attitude, hustle and are getting better every day.”
