The FBI agent whose body was discovered in a hiking area behind a school in Burbank last week died of a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head, officials said Monday.
Los Angeles County Asst. Chief Coroner Ed Winters said the death of FBI Special Agent Stephen Ivens, who disappeared from his home in May, had been deemed a suicide.
Ivens' service weapon had been located near his body after hikers made the grim discovery of his decomposed body July 30 not far from his home in the 1700 block of Scott Road, where the 36-year-old agent was last seen.
The body was near a cement path about 300 feet behind a small chapel in an upper parking lot of St. Francis Xavier School.
It remained unclear how long Ivens had been dead before his body was discovered.
