NBCUniversal is laying off more than 160 employees from its Burbank facility, a direct result of “The Tonight Show’s”
with Jimmy Fallon as the new host, according to a company spokesperson.
NBCUniversal notified the California Employment Development Department last month it would eliminate 164 positions, which the spokesman, who did not want to be identified, confirmed. He said the layoffs will begin on Feb. 14 and be staggered through April 4.
He did not know how many of the employees were offered jobs in New York City, but he did say NBCUniversal encourages displaced employees to apply for posts anywhere in the company, including the New York-based “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
He added that the layoffs will impact primarily production-based jobs.
