An 18-year-old Sun Valley man was arrested on suspicion of committing a string of burglaries in the last week in which $1,000 worth of cash, cigarettes and alcohol were stolen from several businesses on Glenoaks Boulevard in Burbank, police said.

Police were called to the 2800 block of North Glenoaks Boulevard around 1 a.m. on Wednesday following reports of what sounded like a window being smashed at a local business, said Burbank Police Officer Joshua Kendrick.

The alarm subsequently went off, after which officers confirmed there had been a burglary, Kendrick said.

Officers screened the area and located a man, identified as Chad Shillinglaw, who fit the suspect description.

During his interview with police, Shillinglaw reportedly admitted to committing additional commercial burglaries earlier in the night and in the last week, Kendrick said.

He had allegedly broken into several restaurants, a market, bakery and a salon.

A 17-year-old woman, who was not identified because she’s a minor, was with him and cited on suspicion of burglary and released to her parents. She had been reported missing on Tuesday, Kendrick said.

The minor reportedly denied any involvement in the previous burglaries.

Kendrick encouraged neighbors who see suspicious activity to call the police, noting that the individual who called the police in this case helped officers get to the scene of the crime more quickly.
