Homeless man arrested on suspicion of lewd conduct in Subway shop

A homeless man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of masturbating in a Subway sandwich shop in Costa Mesa, according to police.

Officers went to the shop at 1815 Newport Blvd. about 8 a.m., but the man had left, Costa Mesa police Sgt. Matt Selinske said.

A man was taken into custody nearby on suspicion of lewd conduct, a misdemeanor, Selinske said.

Authorities identified him as Jimmy Bell, 27, a transient from Costa Mesa.

Bell was booked into Orange County Jail with bail set at $20,000, according to Sheriff’s Department records.
